Ammonia Water is an aqueous solution of gaseous ammonia [1]. The main component is NH3 ·H2O, which is ammonia monohydrate. It is colorless and transparent and has a pungent odor. Ammonia Water is less dense than water, unstable, volatile, and easy to decompose when exposed to light and heat. Ammonia Water itself is non-flammable and non-explosive liquid. The ammonia separated from the water has a strong pungent smell, which is irritating and corrosive to the human eyes, nose and skin, and poses a risk of burning and explosion.
Concentrated Ammonia Water usually contains 28%-29% ammonia. The gas molecules in Ammonia Water are slightly hydrolyzed to generate hydroxide ions (OH-) and ammonium ions (NH4+), so they are weakly alkaline and have alkaline properties. It is chemical and can react with acidic substances and various metal ions such as copper and zinc to form insoluble weak bases or amphoteric hydroxides. It is an important chemical raw material and a common source of ammonia in chemical experiments. It is widely used in agriculture, industry, scientific research and other fields.
